Red is a color that can be interpreted ambiguously. On the one hand, it is the color of love, passion and passion, and on the other hand, it is also the color of hatred and anger. The title fits the novel perfectly.
The plot focuses on murders that share a disturbing similarity of gruesome injuries, but they are separated by time, as it has been 18 years since the first such crime. The inhabitants of Sopot are shocked and terrified. The author herself says that “Czerwień” is not an ordinary detective story – it is an extremely emotional and multi-threaded book. The multitude of characters makes it impossible for the reader to know which of them could have had a motive to kill.
I’ve always been drawn to detective stories with the theme of a forensic pathologist/anthropologist. it all started with Simon Beckett and the hero he created, namely the phlegmatic doctor David Hunter. The last one I read about was Marek Zadrożny, who “came out” from the pen of Katarzyna Berenika Miszczuk. I think it’s an extremely interesting, extremely difficult and strange job. It’s great to read about her. I admit that she has always fascinated me unhealthily. So I am glad that in this story we will find Tadeusz, a meticulous, well-liked, obsessively accurate pathologist. Another main character – prosecutor Leo Bilski, although sometimes a slacker, of course stole my heart. I hope this is not the end of his story and I look forward to more.
Overall, I couldn’t put the book down! I heartily recommend it to lovers of bloody stories and native writers. I am impatiently waiting for the next volume. I wonder what color the author will choose this time?
