“I like it because anyone can hit” What a pitcherless tee ball, 210-win legend would think

KBO Talent Donation Committee member Song Jin-woo led a pitching clinic for education students.

On April 24, Song Jin-woo visited the “2023 Future Youth Leaders National Education University T-Ball Tournament” at the Boeun-gun Sports Park Baseball Field in Chungcheongbuk-do, South Chungcheong Province, and gave a one-point pitching lesson to the students.

Song Jin-woo, a legendary pitcher with a KBO career record of 672 games (3003 innings), 210 wins, 153 losses, 17 holds, 103 saves, and a 3.51 ERA, imparted his unique know-how to the students. Although there are no pitchers in T-ball, many students who are interested in baseball gathered to listen to his advice, and he sincerely taught them using baseballs specially prepared by the KBO. Even after the clinic, he had to stay on the field for a long time as many students wanted his autograph.

“I was a little worried because they were playing tee ball, not baseball,” said Song Jin-woo, a member of the committee, “but when I first saw them, I realized that they were having fun and enjoying themselves. I was most impressed that they were having fun and exercising.”

Song Jin-woo, who did his best to help the students in the short time he was there, said, “It’s a short time and I’m not a baseball player, so I can’t really tell them much. Nevertheless, I could tell that they were interested in baseball by their desire to learn and their desire to throw well. I realized that the whole baseball infrastructure could be expanded, not just tee ball,” he says of the students’ enthusiasm.

Song Jin-woo, a member of the committee, said, “The training was based on the premise that there is a limit to what can be taught in a short period of time,” and added, “We tried to make it a little more fun with their current abilities, but there were many students who were definitely different from when they were throwing before. Seeing them smile after throwing the ball made my heart smile even more,” he laughed.

Designed to make baseball accessible to all ages, tee ball does not have a pitcher. Instead, players hit a ball that is placed on a tee. “Pitching is actually the most difficult part of baseball,” says Song Jin-woo. In neighborhood baseball or social baseball, there are many cases where the pitcher can’t pitch and the game becomes loose. Many people want to pitch, but it’s not easy. However, the advantage of tee ball is that pitchers don’t have to compete with their pitches and anyone can hit,” he said.바카라사이트

“This is the first time I’ve come to a tee ball tournament and taught students,” said Song Jin-woo. “I was interested in tee ball before and was asked to teach, but it didn’t work out, but I knew what kind of sport it was. Now that I’ve seen it in action, I think it’s great for fans to enjoy because the tempo is fast and men and women can play together.”
