Malaysia re-adopts taekwondo as an official event at the National Sports Festival next year

The Ministry of Youth and Sports of Malaysia has re-adopted taekwondo as an official event at the National Sports Festival next year.

Hong Seong-ah, a correspondent for the Korea International Cultural Exchange Promotion Agency in Kuala Lumpur, quoted a local media report on the 10th and said that the Ministry of Youth and Sports adopted taekwondo among the 28 official events of the 2024 National Sports Festival.

The Malaysian National Sports Festival, which started in 1986, is a biennial event that competes over 20 events.

Taekwondo was adopted as an official event from the 1st competition and was played, but was excluded from the official event at the 20th competition held in Kuala Lumpur last year.

It is known that the exclusion of taekwondo was due to conflicts within the Malaysian taekwondo organization.

At the time, Prime Minister Abang Johari Openg of Sarawak said, “Taekwondo must be selected as an official event at the National Sports Festival.” .

Local media analyzed that Sarawak has traditionally been strong in taekwondo competitions, and because the 2024 tournament will be held in the region and Prime Minister Openg strongly supports it, it was possible to return to the official sport. 안전놀이터

The Taekwondo team from Sarawak has achieved good results by winning gold medals at the National Sports Festival held so far, and swept gold medals in domestic competitions such as the Youth Taekwondo Championship and the Milo National Taekwondo Championship, as well as international competitions such as the Kathmandu International Taekwondo Championship and the Bangkok Taekwondo Festival Championship.
